Hello, I am the 16-year-old Nandini Mudgal, the driving force behind TRUE COMPANION. As I transitioned into my teenage years, I couldn't help but notice the remarkable journeys of visually challenged individuals in our society. Their everyday challenges, the battles they face with unfaltering courage, and the grace with which they navigate a world that often seems designed against them left an indelible mark on my heart.
TRUE COMPANION is not just a name; it's a promise to stand by those who tread the path not much trodden to empower them with knowledge and walk alongside them as genuine companions on their journey through life.
I invite you to stand by my side in our collective endeavor to empower and elevate the visually challenged community. Visually Challenged
Observing a visually challenged individual from afar offers ​one perspective, but it's an entirely distinct experience to ​authentically comprehend their individuality and ​wholeheartedly welcome them into our community. Our ​expedition commenced with a visit to the National ​Association for the Blind (NAB) in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.
Our interaction with these remarkable students at NAB ​served as a catalyst for our mission - to educate, guide, ​train, and assist them in making informed career choices.

- Manmohan, a Class XI student at Rajkiye Inter College Nawar Khera, Haldwani
- Bhumika Rathore, a Class IX student at Naini Valley School, Haldwani, with 40% vision
- Lalit, a Class XI student from Almora, pursuing Arts and aspiring to study at MB Degree College, Haldwani
- Raveen, a Class XI student at GGIC, Haldwani
Each of these students carries dreams that ignite our collective passion. Listening to their aspirations and sharing insights into career choices forged a deep connection. It felt as though we were becoming integral parts of their life journeys.

We firmly believe that they possess unique skill sets that make them valuable assets to employers. Both government and private sectors offer diverse job opportunities tailored to their abilities.
At TRUE COMPANION, we provide insights into various career options, helping visually challenged individuals make informed decisions. Here are some key areas we discuss:
1. Information Technology (IT) and Computer Programming: We introduce them to the world of IT and computer programming, equipping them with essential skills. Our focus is on software like JAWS (Screen Reader Software) and NVDA (Non-Visual Desktop Access), empowering them in this dynamic field.
2. CRM Voice and QP Training: We offer insights into Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Voice and QP Training, preparing visually challenged candidates for roles that require effective communication and customer interaction. We emphasize the importance of patience and attentive customer service.
3. Civil Services: We encourage them to explore prestigious Civil Services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and state services. We share inspiring stories of differently-abled individuals who have successfully cracked these examinations, proving that determination knows no bounds.
4. Engineering: We discuss the vast opportunities available in the field of engineering, from Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering to Chemical Engineering and beyond. Engineering programs consistently yield high placement rates and abundant job opportunities.
5. Hospitality: The hospitality sector is teeming with diverse roles, ranging from housekeeping to food and beverage management, front office operations, and accounting. We highlight the myriad career possibilities in this vibrant industry.
6. Teaching: Teaching is a noble profession, providing visually challenged individuals with comfortable work timings to impart knowledge to students. Many schools actively seek visually impaired educators, and these individuals can also contribute by teaching other visually impaired students using Braille and other techniques.

- Creating a Life-Saving Fire Alarm & Evacuation System
During our interactions, a critical need came into focus - the absence of a Fire Alarm and Evacuation system designed specifically for visually challenged individuals. Our aspiration is to design a system that integrates fire detection mechanisms, sound alarms, motion sensors, and CCTV cameras. This innovative system will guide visually challenged individuals to safety during emergencies by analyzing the fire's spread, the number of occupants, available exits, and other vital parameters.
- Creating Inclusive Classrooms for All
In our mission to support visually challenged individuals, we understand the importance of creating inclusive classrooms. Here are some strategies to ensure every student's success:
- Optimize seating arrangements for improved visibility.
- Maintain clear and accessible walkways.
- Provide extra time for tasks and exams.
- Familiarize them with assistive devices and technologies.
- Encourage verbal responses for assignments and tests.
- Establish a plan for making up missed instructions and assignments.
- Promote acceptance and celebrate diversity.

- Harnessing Free Residential Facility
To support the holistic development of visually challenged individuals, we hope to offer a free residential facility. Here, they receive education, training in Braille, and access to accessible computers. We enroll them in reputable mainstream schools in the city, and resource teachers are available at the NAB resource center to provide support beyond school hours.
